CineGrid 3D 4K

CineGrid 3D 4K

CineGrid is a global, non-profit organization dedicated to the research and demonstration of ultra-high-quality digital media over high-speed photonic networks. At its core, the project functions as a specialized "collaboratory," integrating high-performance computing with the rigorous demands of digital cinema. By utilizing 10 Gbps optical networks, CineGrid enables the real-time distribution and collaborative editing of 4K, 8K, and stereoscopic 3D media across vast distances. This infrastructure effectively removes the geographical barriers of high-end production, allowing interdisciplinary teams to treat global networks as a singular, unified workspace.

Detail

A highlight of my research included networking media infrastructure, culminating in the tri-continental premiere of 4K feature-length media. This milestone successfully established new benchmarks for distributed cinema, proving that uncompressed, ultra-high-resolution streams could be synchronized across continents with minimal latency. That led to a private demonstration of this technology for George Lucas at Industrial Light & Magic.
