Tele-Taiko Teaching at CineGrid 2013 was a pioneering exploration into high-fidelity, low-latency remote pedagogy, leveraging high-speed optical networks to bridge the physical distance between instructor and student. Under the technical direction of Todd Margolis, the project featured Diana Wu of Naruwan Taiko utilizing advanced motion capture technology to provide real-time, nuanced instruction to Nicholas Vu over the CineGrid virtual network.
By integrating ultra-high-definition video streaming with motion-tracked data, the research successfully simulated the kinesthetic feedback of an in-person apprenticeship, proving that even the most physically demanding and rhythmically precise art forms can be effectively transmitted across global research networks.
