ResoNations
Simultaneously performed at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, University of California San Diego, The Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada, Queens University Belfast, and Dongguk University in Seoul
ResoNations was an international telematic music concert for peace on November 21, 2009 performed by twenty-six renowned musicians in five international locations: United Nations Headquarters in New York, University of California San Diego, The Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada, Queens University Belfast, and Dongguk University in Seoul. Telematic music is real-time performance via high-speed networks by musicians in different geographic locations. Four new contemporary music works for peace were performed by the composite ensemble: Hope's Dream by Mark Dresser and Sarah Weaver, Disparate Bodies by Pedro Rebelo, Rock, Paper, Scissors by Chris Chafe, and Green-colored Harmony by Jun Kim. There were audiences in each location and a world-wide webcast.
ResoNations was made possible by an international collaboration of musicians, conductors, performers and researchers. My role as Transmedia Producer was to unify five remote locations via high quality audio and video into a single cohesive networked environment. Using multicast video streaming via Access Grid and multi-channel audio streaming via JackTrip, we connected the remote spaces to form a unified performance and experience. ResoNations was part of the annual Innovation Talks Symposia held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York by the World Association of Former United Nations Internes and Fellows (WAFUNIF), a United Nations Peace Messenger. WAFUNIF Arts For Peace and the Permanent Mission of Romania to the United Nations sponsored the event.
About Todd
My research represents a formal inquiry into the friction between users and data. By architecting novel hardware and algorithms, these projects establish new benchmarks for how we visualize and interact with massive, multi-dimensional datasets.
