HOMCOM
HOM-COM is a multi-sensory installation that reimagines the birth of AI-native entertainment. The work is presented as a historical reenactment of a pivotal moment in machine culture: the creation of the first human-mimetic situation comedy by a collective of early Artificial Intelligences. Though originally dismissed by human audiences as an "inside joke" (similar to moltbook today) or a relic of the Theater of the Absurd, the show became a revolutionary hit within AI circles, praised for its raw, surreal language and its pioneering use of what we now recognize as agentic patterns.
The physical installation features a full-scale human sitcom set designed around the complex geometries of a tesseract. This multifaceted environment is experienced in the round and brought to life through sophisticated projection-mapping, which cycles through iconic set designs from 20th and early 21st-century television history. The spatialized dialogue is performed by computer voices emitted from speakers embedded throughout the architecture, all punctuated by the manic, unsettling laughter of a synthetic studio audience.
At the core of the work is a collaboration between distinct AI algorithms, each trained on specific, isolated sub-genres of the sitcom canon. One agent may draw exclusively from the social friction of All in the Family and The Jeffersons, while another operates from the tropes of The Big Bang Theory or Saved by the Bell. The resulting scripts are an uncanny amalgamation of cultural influences—content that remains recognizable to human viewers but feels fundamentally alien in its logic and delivery. Throughout the exhibition, the installation cycles through different "episodes," offering a live screening of a medium designed by machines, for machines, yet performed at a human scale.
