Immersive Manufacturing
This project explores the convergence of Immersive Analytics and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), transforming complex manufacturing data into a navigable 3D environment. Developed for high-fidelity VR headsets, the system provides a digital twin of a factory floor where real-time sensor data is mapped directly onto a virtualized conveyor system. As widgets move through the production cycle, users can physically move within the space to inspect live sensor readings, enabling a more intuitive understanding of machine health and production flow.
The platform bridges the gap between high-level oversight and tactical intervention through interactive command-and-control features. Users can manipulate power controls within the virtual space to halt the entire factory process upon detecting a sensor anomaly, facilitating immediate troubleshooting before resuming operations. By integrating Qlik Sense analytics directly into the VR experience, the system provides a multi-temporal view of the plant—blending instantaneous streaming data, short-term widget tracking, and long-term historical trends into a single, comprehensive "common operating picture" for industrial management.
About Todd
My research represents a formal inquiry into the friction between users and data. By architecting novel hardware and algorithms, these projects establish new benchmarks for how we visualize and interact with massive, multi-dimensional datasets.
